Each of the center's 3 training programs has an affiliated fellowship program. The Biosafety Training Fellowship Program and Career Development Fellowship Programs each accept 2 fellows per year for no more than 2 years of funding. The Clinical/Translational Fellowship program provides research funding at any MRCE partner institution. The Biosafety Training Fellowship Program is currently supervised by Dr. Joe Kanabrocki at Washington University in St. Louis.

The Veterinary Medicine Training Program at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Iowa State University and Kansas State University accepts 2-3 fellows per year to receive fellowship funding for a variable term.

Applications to all 3 programs are reviewed by the center's Executive Committee, and fellows are required to submit yearly reports of their progress each fall, to be compiled as part of the center's annual report submission to NIAID. To date, the center has trained a total of 12 fellows who have successfully completed their fellowships and pursued careers related to biosafety or infectious diseases.
